Psychiatric consultations

The initial assessment phase usually lasts 1-3 sessions. Together we then formulate a treatment plan.

I can also provide a 2nd opinion if you have received a diagnosis that you no longer believe is correct.

Withdrawal of psychotropic drugs

I have extensive experience of how to best taper off psychotropic drugs. The common perception for many years has been that psychotropic drugs can be tapered off in the same way as when they are started, that is, in a few weeks. This has recently been shown not to be true and many psychotropic drugs require a slow withdrawal according to the so-called hyperbole method, where you taper off in smaller and smaller doses.

Talk therapy

I use psychodynamic principles with elements of cognitive and behavioral therapy.

Training

I regularly give lectures to aspiring doctors, nurses, psychologists and social workers in psychiatric diagnostics and psychopharmacology. I tailor the content to your wishes.

My approach

My view is that psychiatry has increasingly come to revolve around medication and brief therapeutic interventions. While this can be helpful for some, many report that it actually makes them feel worse. Medications often come with side effects, including emotional numbing – which may initially feel relieving, but in the long run can hinder the healing process.

Short-term psychological treatment carries a high risk of failure, which may lead the individual to believe they are "too ill for therapy."

In today’s society, anxiety and low mood are often seen as feelings we should not experience at all. They are given little value and are thought to be symptoms of disease that must disappear as quickly as possible.

I take the opposite view: in many cases, these feelings are the body’s way of signaling that something is wrong. Rather than pushing them away at all costs, we should try to listen to what they are telling us. When the situation becomes overwhelmingly painful, medication can sometimes offer excellent support—especially in the short term—while we try to understand what needs to change.
